MARBLE, STONE & GRANITE IN INDIA

MARBLE, STONE & GRANITE IN INDIA
BHANDARIMARBLEGROUP
India possesses a wide spectrum of dimensional stones that include granite, marble, sandstone, limestone, slate, and quartzite, in various parts of the country.
BhandariMarbleGroup
The Indian stone industry has evolved into the production and manufacturing of blocks, flooring slabs, structural slabs, monuments, tomb stones, sculptures, cobbles, pebbles and landscape garden stones.
India’s history, dating back to 3200 BC has been influenced considerably by the disposition, development and use of stones and other construction materials. Dimension stones have also left deep imprints on the architectural heritage of the country. Innumerable temples, forts and palaces of Ancient Indian Civilization have been carved out of locally available stones. The Taj Mahal at Agra was constructed from Indian marble. Some of the rock-cut structures include Khajuraho Temple, Elephanta Caves, and Konark Temple. Besides, all major archeological excavations have revealed exquisitely carved statuettes and carvings in stone. Ancient Buddhist monuments like the Sanchi Stupa of 3rd century BC have also been carved out of stone.
This tradition of Stone Architecture has continued to the present era, with most of the important modern buildings in India like the Presidential House, Parliament House, and Supreme Court made from high quality sandstone of Rajasthan. The Baha’i House of Worship of New Delhi stands testimony to the relevance of marble in modern Indian architecture.
Stones are still the mainstays of civil construction in India, with stones being used extensively in public buildings, hotels, and temples. It is increasingly being used in homes, with the use of stones now penetrating amongst the growing middle class of India.
The success of commercial stone industry solely depends upon defects in rock stone. Natural defects in ornamental commercial rock deposits adversely affect the quality of rock deposit. Detection of natural defects in decorative and dimensional stone industry play vital role in the quality assessment.
BHANDARI MARBLE GROUP
India is pioneer in the exploration, mining of commercial rock deposits and in establishing a firm base for stone industry. India, with an estimated resource of about 1,690 million cu m, comprising over 160 shades of Dimension Stone Granites DSG, accounts for about 205 of the world resources. Of the 300 varieties being traded in the world market, nearly half of them are from India. Commercially viable granite and other rock deposits are reported from Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, and others.
Marble was used for building tombs, temples and palaces. For a time it was considered as Royal Stone. It is, however, now used in hotels and homes too. There are many varieties.

CHECK OUT THE EXCLUSIVE COLLECTION OF ITLIAN MARBLE INDIAN MARBLE WITH BHANDARI MARBLE GROUP
Marble has a magical ability to make any room in your home feel like it has been coated with luxury, and for some home owners and designers, there is simply no substitute for majestic marble. There are many different kinds of marble you can use in your home, with white marble being a classic selection. All marble types have their own beautiful intricacies and various purposes depending on where and how they’ll be used in a space.
Marble is a calcium rich natural stone, meaning it continues to change over time with use, adding character to the piece. This can be most obvious with white marble, as imperfections are more visible. When taken care of, it can remain in tip-top shape, preserving its unique personality while still looking luxurious. For those looking to add white marble into their home, take a look at these 6 different types of marble and their best uses.
Carrara Marble
This popular white marble has a clean look with its subtle gray hues. You can spot Carrara marble by looking at the type of veining contrasted against the white/light gray background, as it’s typically thin, linear and feathery versus dark, sharp and bold. Some of the best uses for this white marble include countertops, backsplashes, fireplaces, shower walls, and tile flooring. See Marmol’s Bianco Carrara marble.
Calacatta Marble
This classic Italian marble comes from a quarry in Carrara, Italy, making it one of the more valuable and favored white marble stones. More dramatic-looking than Carrara, this marble takes on a warm white tone and contains a mixture of beige/gold and grey veins that vary in size. Calacatta marble is typically used for kitchen or bathroom countertops, fireplace surrounds, large tiled floors, wall slabs and backsplashes.
Statuario Marble
Statuario marble contains the subtle gray hues found in Carrara with similar gray veining that you’ll find in Calacatta slabs. This stone is a very bright white in color, also making it incredibly valuable. While Statuario is haled in Italy for being the perfect marble for carving statues, it is also a highly sought after material for residential and commercial projects. This white marble works beautifully as a large tile option, countertop slab or book matched backsplash or wall panel.
Thassos Marble
Thassos marble is crystal white in color and comes from the island Thassos in Greece. This marble is distinguished by its almost glowing, sparkling appearance. Popular even in ancient times, Thassos marble is excellent for reflecting light and brightening up a space. The simple color palette of this white marble makes it suitable for various home design styles, with the ability to contrast or complement an existing scheme. The polished white marble is best used for kitchen and bathroom countertops, as well as tiled floors.
White Himalaya
This other Greek marble, White Himalaya or Volakas, has similar characteristics to Carrara. The veins of White Himalaya marble can range from gray and brown to slightly purple-colored hues, all atop the solid white background. This marble definitely makes a statement and can be used for bathrooms floors and countertops, wall panels, tub surrounds and waterfall kitchen islands. White Himalaya and White Himalaya Spider stones.

ALL TYPES OF MARBLE BY BHANDARI MARBLE GROUP
Calacatta
Types of marble
Calacatta is a popular type of marble, which is quarried in the Carrara region of Italy. It is typically white with dark gray veining throughout. Calacatta is relatively rare, so it’s considered a luxury stone. It looks great when paired with stainless steel appliances or in bathrooms. The Calacatta Gold version of this stone has more of a rich color than the typical white Calacatta marble. It’s slighter warmer in tone, but not dark. The Calacatta Gold marble still has the deep gray veining throughout. Because Calacatta is one of the most popular types of marble, we’ve explained more in depth some of the other subtypes below:
Another important fact to note is that when people refer to Carrara, they are actually referring to Bianco Carrara, which is the white type of Carrara. Other types of marble which are quarried in Carrara, Italy can also be considered Carrara marble, however, they do not go by the Carrara name. Because this is one of the most popular types of marble alongside Calacatta, we’ve provided some of the most common subtypes of Bianco Carrara below.
Bianco Carrara Extra: This type of Carrara marble is a light off-white color and has light brown veining throughout.
Bianco Carrara Venato: This is a unique type of Carrara marble, because it is a bright white color and has strong veining that is dark-brown or black.
Dark Emperador
The Emperador marble is quarried in three different regions throughout Spain, and it can come in a variety of different hues, however, the most popular is the Dark Emperador. The Dark Emperador marble is a deep chocolate brown toned marble, which provides a homey feel to any house. Many people use this marble for floors or fireplaces. It usually has fine grains and irregular veining throughout. As you can see, marble varies tremendously from bright white to dark brown, so it can be used to decorate any home.
Milan Gray

Kitchen with marble counter tops
The kitchen is one of the most popular places to use marble. Many people use marble for countertops or kitchen islands to create a clean, expensive, and chic look. Depending on what look you’re going for, white marbles such as Carrara or Calacatta can be a great choice for kitchen design. However, mixing white with black marble accents can also work well in kitchens. Your color tones and marble types will depend on what theme you’ve chosen, but thankfully, marble has so many options to choose from.

In the bathroom, marble is used for countertops, floors, backsplashes, and showers. Using marble as opposed to basic tile can go a long way in improving your bathroom and making it look upscale for guests. Floors
Marble floors will make any kitchen, bathroom, or entryway look magnificent. You can cover parts of it with beautiful rugs for a cozier feel, but the marble and its veining will stand out and really add a sense of luxury to your home. While most people go with wood floors, those who have the confidence to go with marble are one of a kind. A lot of people choose big diamond patterned tiles of marble for their floors, but small tiles may also be good for smaller spaces. It’s completely up to you.
Marble walls
Surprisingly, you can put marble tiles on your walls as well, not just in your shower or on a backsplash. Marble walls can look great with wood floors. It will look glamorous and allow the rest of the room to be cozy.
Marble dining room table
You can make any furniture out of marble if you choose, but of course, you’ll want to stick to more decorative pieces or tables, chairs, nightstands, etc. Statues, stairs, and outdoor pieces are also good options—the possibilities are truly endless. Where to Buy Marble
Marble of all types can be bought and shipped from online suppliers or from local distributors. Most cities have a variety of marble suppliers to choose from, and if you’re renovating your home, your contractor may partner with specific suppliers which they can recommend to you.
If you’re looking for particularly precious stones, you may have to get the exact number of slabs needed to be shipped in directly from the area in which they are quarried. However, these areas are used to having to send out their marble all over the world. Marble is sold by the square foot and can vary tremendously in price depending on the particular type of stone you choose. Carrara is one of the most budget-friendly options for marble because it is the most widely available. More precious and expensive options include Calacatta and colorful stones like Verde, Blue Marble, and Nero Marquina.
How to Maintain Marble
Marble is a great choice for your home because it is a much more sustainable option than wood and other materials. Stone will last longer than any other material out there, and though it takes some maintenance, it is extremely sturdy and will hold up against any beating you give it. One part of maintaining your marble floors and countertops is to protect it with proper sealing. That way, it will be waterproof.

SOME OTHER TYPES OF MARBLE AND STONE FLOORING THAT YOU CAN CHOOSE FROM:

Limestone:
Limestone is a sedimentary rock that consists of mostly organic material, such as the skeletons and shells of marine creatures. Over millions of years, it solidifies into solid rock.
Travertine:
Travertine is formed by geysers when the extremely hot underground water dissolves the underlying limestone and carries it upwards with the geyser water. When the water falls to the ground, it re-hardens into stone. The new stone is full of gas bubbles, giving Travertine its characteristic appearance. As travertine is made from water, it is great in a wet environment. However, any holes need to be filled. You should care for it in the same as any other natural stone.
Slate floor tiles:
Rustic, grey-black slate wall and floor tiles are an affordable metamorphic stone composed of silt ore, shale, and volcanic ash, compressed over millions of years. These tiles have durable properties and characteristic colours which give a tactile surface whilst still being extremely hard-wearing. Glossy finishes must be polished regularly, and tumbled or honed slate must be sealed regularly.

Natural stone for your architectural projects
Natural stone is widely used in construction, external design, indoor wall covering and even to create decorative objects. Marble, onyx and granite products are ecological, resistant to low temperatures and long lasting. These original materials create a unique, luxury atmosphere at home, at the work place or in recreational areas.

EASY SELECTION OF PRODUCTS
Knowing which marble to choose and how to choose it, is a tedious task for those who don’t quite know what to look for. Re-modelling projects catered by individuals sometimes go extremely haywire in the absence of correct information about the application of the marble so chosen. Architects and interior designers are, hence, on a constant hunt for best products to specify their clients.

COLORFUL MARBLE, COLORFUL GRANITE, COLORFUL STONE:
The principle advantage of marble and other natural stone in a bathroom is that it makes a bold statement of elegance and style. In centuries past, stone was chosen as a building material because of its strength and durability, but in today’s construction, there are other building materials offer better strength and nearly equal durability—as well as lower cost. What hasn’t changed—and probably never will, since marble and other natural stone exist in limited supplies—is that natural stone symbolizes exclusivity and style.

OUR SPECIALITY- ITALIAN MARBLES:
Marble is evergreen and timeless. It adds a royal touch to the floorings, countertops, etc. The advent of new technology and new materials has not been able to take away the charm of marble flooring.

OUR BEST SELLING ITALIAN MARBLES:
Marble is evergreen and timeless. It adds a royal touch to the floorings, countertops, etc. The advent of new technology and new materials has not been able to take away the charm of marble flooring.

Some advantages of using marbles are:
• Marble creates a very magnificent aesthetic impact on the interiors especially Italian marble.
• Marble flooring is very durable and can last for ages. It is a heavy stone and can take heavy loads on it.
• Marble flooring is scratch resistant.

Types of Italian marbles and how to choose the best:
The most popular white Italian marble varieties are Carrara, Calacatta, and Statuario. These three Italian marbles can sometimes resemble one another, but there are differences that are important to note in order to be able to choose just the right one.
• Carrara marble is grayish-white with less large veins and more fine, feathery veining that often appears to be linear.
• Calacatta marble is rarer than Carrara and is more white than gray. It often has undertones of brown and gold.
• Statuario is the most precious marble variety found in Italy. It has distinctive veining that can range from gold to gray.

Italian marble: Widely appreciated for its high lustre and imparting visual appeal to the area where it’s used, Italian marble is quarried in Italy and is now easily available in India as well. Italian marble is one of the most sought after because of rarity of the material. Italian marble is a versatile stone and can be used in many areas of the house. It is well known as a flooring material and it has been widely used in bathrooms as floor tiles, wall cladding and vanity tops. It also makes great table tops and kitchen worktops where practicality meets subtle elegance.
Italian marble slabs can be used in luxury bathrooms to create impressive bespoke wall cladding that doubles as a piece of art.
Italian marble – Italian marble, like the Indian counterpart comes in a variety of colours and textures, though there are a few varieties which are instantly recognizable such as:
• The much valued Statuario marble which is characterised by its white colour shot with grey or gold veins
• Golden hued Botticino marble which seems to be lit from within
• Light grey Carrera marble which features dispersed, fine, feathery veining
• Calacatta, with its feathery veins and creamy background has become one of the most popular marbles.

GRANITE- THE SUPERSTONE

GRANITE- THE SUPERSTONE!

HUGE VARIETY AVAILABLE AT BHANDARI MARBLE GROUP:

WHAT IS GRANITE?

Granite is a natural stone that is quarried in many countries around the globe. Granite and Quartzite are the names that are used interchangeably wherever stone tile and slabs are sold.
 True Granite is a porous, igneous rock that has any number of chemical compositions that include a quartz base.
 Quartzite is a metamorphic rock that has a higher percentage of quartz in its chemical makeup than granite does.

For the record, true quartzite is harder than true granite. But, don’t get too caught up in the name of the stone because regardless of which it is, geologically speaking, it has the same purpose and durability.
White Granite is harder to find than black or brown granite. All granite (and Marble) gets its name from the background color.
Some white granite slabs have veins similar to marble while others may have a spattering of freckles in either brown, gray, black or red and may include a sprinkling of blue throughout.

SOME OF THE BEST PRODUCTS:

River White Granite is also known as Valley White and comes from India mines. The background is a translucent white with gray, blue and taupe veins and burgundy patches running throughout. The pattern is more linear than some granites, thus the reference to rivers.

White Ice Granite is mined in Brazil and quantities end up being quite limited which accounts for the higher price on this stone.
White Ice made its name in the granite countertop field because of its snowy white background and the contrast of the dark veins and patches. This one also has some blue veining in it and slabs are usually 8’ x 8’in size with the occasional slab larger than that. White Ice is cut to 3 cm thick, making it one of the nicer slab products for granite.
Colonial white granite is known for its consistent veining with grays, blues and taupe highlighted in the stone.
Super White Granite is not granite at all. It’s actually a quartzite, which is harder than granite and has equal or better durability. Some suppliers actually list it as marble, so check for a supplier that charges a granite price and save money. And, to add to the confusion, it is also called Fantasy White in some areas and White Vermont in the Northeast.
Kashmir White Granite is found in the same areas where Garnets are found in Southern India. As a result, it sometimes has small inclusions of garnets embedded in the slab. The patterns of greys and black mica give an overall salt and pepper appearance with swaths of veining running across it.
Alaska White Granite from Brazil is a beautiful blend of palest silver and frosty whites highlighted with neutrals and onyx hues that glitter with a warm glow in sunlight and under kitchen lighting. Because it comes in a fairly large range of slab sizes, it is an ideal choice for any application in the kitchen.
Moon White Granite comes from a mine in India where rust and taupe colors predominate due to oxidation over millions of years. The slab colors are consistent year after year which makes this ideal for doing one countertop at a time if the budget demands it. Rarely, if ever, does this granite have black spots.
White Galaxy Granite is one of the granites mined in China. The striking blue, gray swirls and dark blue specks that occur in this granite is the key to its personality.
White Fantasy granite is one of the best for a marble-like finish.

ABOUT GRANITE COMPOSITION:
While the composition of granite makes it nearly impossible to achieve what many refer to as a “pure” white, the beauty of white granite lies in its striations, flecks and variations, which also add character and interest to the countertop surface. White granite countertops also have a very complementary nature.

GRANITE APPLICATION:
Looking to make a trendy yet timeless upgrade to your kitchen, bath or other surface in your home? Look no further than white granite countertops. In addition to uniquely brightening up a living space, white granite counters add elegance with no sacrifice of durability.
In fact, natural granite is a hard and nonporous stone making it a brilliant choice for kitchen counters and other high-traffic areas of your home. Meanwhile, white continues to have a major moment, with designers and homeowners alike loving it for its chic, clean aesthetic.
